The Ugly Duckling
From 2018 to 2020, I had the opportunity to work on the New Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense, Denmark. EVENT Communications, a global exhibition/ experience design agency, contacted me for the project.
I was tasked with creating all the illustrations for the museum. The art direction was led by Stuart Williams and Eithne Owens from EVENT team, alongside Henrik Lübker from HCA Hus.
The story of The Ugly Duckling is presented to visitors through six scenes. These represent the transformation of the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan, while they also remind the visitors that the ugly duckling is Andersen telling his own story. On this set, each scene is composed of three layers, 2 cut outs and 1 digital screen, however, they are read as one. The screens are looping and playing continuously so visitors see The Ugly Duckling in multiple places at once.
